Web platform for solar plants
UI/UX Case study
Quantom
Quantom offers a new approach to the technical management of photovoltaic power plants, built on performance optimization, technological innovation and digitalization.
Quantom developed a web-based platform to monitor the performance of solar plants in real-time.
Some of the options on the platform are:
1. Performance analysis
2. Services for maintenance professionals
3. Power plant optimization
Project overview
Working on this platform involved designing on the existing structure (UX and UI).
Requirements for this project:
1. Upgrading user experience overall
2. Redesigning alarm systems (section)
3. Creating new components based on the existing UI structure
4. Redesigning layout sections to accommodate space
for more information
5. Researching (industry, product)
6. User testing (existing clients)
Research
I used their previous work (market and customer research) as a starting point. Based on this I could easily conduct my research and compare the results.
Also, from their clients, I got a list of problems and requirements. This information helped me a lot, reducing the research time. The main focus was on product and industry research.
From research and provided documentation, I created a list of existing and potential problems. This was a first step to possible solutions.
Problems
1. Usability problems (multiple sections)
2. Not enough information
3. Bad alarm system (UI and UX)
4. Non-intuitive component for datalogger (alarm)
5. Confusing filter and sorting options
Solutions
1. Enhancing UX structure (research and testing based on user requirements and current problems)
2. Dialogs and expendable fields for easy access to more information while keeping the existing structure
3 & 4. Introducing new components and UX flows (based on product and customer research)
5. Introducing dropdowns for filtering options while maintaining the current position and design for sorting
Challenges
The biggest challenge was to incorporate a new UX structure while maintaining the existing UI architecture. Keeping the layout as similar as possible was important for existing clients.
Other challenges:
1. Total section redesign while following design requirements
2. Introducing new components to solve usability problems
3. Maintaining the current structure while respecting customer wishes

User testing
User testing was conducted with the existing clients. The possibility of finding small usability problems was high since participants already knew how to use this platform.
After user testing, I learned about some current and potential issues with icons and symbol recognition. To solve this
without using more of the layout space I added “Legend” and information dialogues providing necessary information.
With these issues, other smaller adjustments accrued before finalizing the product design and preparing it for the
development process.
